Graining Base is a premium, alkyd eggshell enamel base paint that can be used alone or under Old Masters Wiping Stain to achieve a wide variety of distinctive decorating effects. When used as a basecoat for woodgraining, this product simulates both the texture and color of bare or unfinished wood. Graining Base can be used on any paintable, interior surface. It offers excellent adhesion, durability, and chip resistance.
Where to Use
Graining Base can be used on any paintable, interior surface and can provide a base coat for wood graining. Wood graining can be achieved on new wood, previously finished surfaces, cabinets, furniture, and metal doors without stripping previous finishes.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dirt, wax, grease, glue, and other contaminants or adhesion will be affected.
New or Bare Wood: Sand surface thoroughly. Remove dust with a lint free rag or tack rag.
Previously Finished Surfaces: Previous finish does not need to be removed if in sound condition. If in poor condition, remove finish and sand smooth. Remove dust.
Metal or High Gloss Surfaces: Remove gloss by sanding to roughen surface. Ensure adhesion, then remove all dust particles with a tack rag.
Application
Stir thoroughly before and during use. Apply with a good quality, natural bristle brush or spray application. On metal surfaces, such as doors, apply Graining Base in the direction of the intended woodgrain. Should a second coat be desired, allow first coat to dry for 24 hours. Once thoroughly dry, sand surface lightly, then recoat. Also allow 24 hours drying time prior to applying Wiping Stain to achieve a woodgrain effect.
Technical Information
Thinning:
Do not thin. Use as packaged.
